Replaced both front springs due to fractures, this is the second set in the car life (first set replaced in 2010). This is not a complete how2 guide, it just gives the basic steps on what’s involved.

Both front springs were replaced (replacement in pairs recommended). Aim for an hour + per side if doing the job on your driveway encountering rusted nuts and bolts throughout the task. Remove the brake caliper, remove the hub from the strut (2 x 18mm bolts), undo the drop link bolt, undo the top strut nut (18mm).
The two 18mm bolts on the strut were very tight and corroded, its highly likely you will need a good breaker bar and socket.
Remove the strut, compress the spring using a suitable spring compressor tool. This will then allow you to undo the top nut and slide the upper strut mount off along with the spring. Assembly is the reverse, take care when using the spring compressor for the new spring that its hooked on securely, and in a position were you can replace the top strut mount without it getting in the way.
TIP
Spray the strut and drop link nuts & bolts with penetrating fluid the day before … it will make life easier!
During the job it was found that the bearing on top of the drivers side top strut mount was cracked (see photo), this was also replaced. When inspecting the struts, I found they are still in really good condition considering they have been on the Vectra since it was built in 2002 with over 100k miles. Without doubt, its crying out for a good aftermarket suspension kit … that will be for the next owner to do 🙂
