At around 61K miles, the ignition barrel pins started to stick not allowing key turns. Firstly attempted to fix by lubricating in situ without success and therefore replaced the complete barrel (not OEM part). Shortly afterwards the cheaper aftermarket barrel failed due to fatigue, luckily I still kept the original which was disassembled, cleaned / lubricated and has worked without issues since.

After removing the steering column cover, (step 5) leave the key in the ignition and locate the small hole at the upper part of the barrel. Push a small Allen key into the hole to release the latch on the barrel (step 6) at the same time pull the barrel out of the housing.
Before replacing the barrel, push the steering lock latch downwards inside the housing (step 7) with a screwdriver. Insert the new barrel (step 8).
