Fitting an Irmscher cross hatch grille to your Vectra-B requires the existing surround to be re-used. This is normally one of the first mods done to the Vectra, and transforms the front end with with very little work involved. Cost approximately £90 – £120.
1. Lift the bonnet and remove the 3 bolts securing the grille to the top slam plate.
2. To separate the V-grille from the surround, place it face down on a soft surface and carefully snap the plastic rivets using a small screwdriver as a lever.
3. The inner V-grille can now be discarded.
4. Cut flush any remaining rivets, as your new grille will not seat well otherwise.
5. Cut off the bracket that had secured the bottom of the chrome ‘V’ in the center of the surround. If using an hacksaw blade, take extra care not to scratch the upper face of the surround, a knife is less likely to scratch … but takes longer to cut.
6. Secure your new Irmscher grille to the surround. You can either use cable ties around the lugs or self tapping screws, both methods are illustrated.
7. Fit your new grille re-using the 3 bolts to secure it. Do not over tighten as the brackets may crack!
8. Stick the self adhesive badge (silhouette or i logo) onto the carrier, clean the carrier and grille slat with the pad provided, and fix using the glue in the badge kit …Carefully – its super glue!
