Covered over 95K miles on the original rear pads which had approximately 1-2mm left on them.
Replaced with Mintex brand
Mintex Rear pads – MDB1651
Mintex Fitting Kit – MBA1266
Mintex Brake Lubricant – N05211400
Remove the pins by tapping them inwards using a punch and hammer.
Clamp the brake hose, slide a length of tubing over the bleed nipple on the caliper with a container to catch any escaping brake fluid and undo the nipple. This will allow the brake pads to be levered out, by pushing the pistons in with a flat ended screwdriver.
Give the caliper a good clean with a wire brush and brake cleaner. A flat file is also ideal to remove any rust where the pads slide, make these areas as smooth as possible. Lubricate the brake pad backs and pins with brake pad anti squeal lubricant. Slide the pads in the caliper and fit the pins with the spring clip.
Bleed the rear brakes, I used the Gunson Eezibleed which is ideal. To finish, the hub and caliper was cleaned and painted. The last photo shows the condition of the 95K pads and fitting kit … impressive for the mileage and age!
