Timing belt, pully’s and water pump replaced at 103K miles. It is recommended you replace the belt and pully’s every 40K miles or 4 years. Your service schedule may show 60K miles, this has since been revised due to premature failures of the pully’s.
The original timing belt and pully’s fitted at the factory were manufactured by ‘Gates’. Failure is usually due to the pully’s rather than the belt snapping. Over time with wear, grease begins to leak from the pully’s causing them to eventually seize. Photo shows pully close to failure, this had been on the Vectra for approximately 50K miles (previously replaced in December 2008 by Geoff & Pete).
The part number to my particular 2.6 Gates timing belt kit is K035453XS, check with you chassis number as there is more than one kit. Cost of around £140 – £200 from Amazon / Ebay. Fitting a new water pump at the same time is also a good idea, aim to buy a good brand such as SKF part# VKPC 85613.
To undertake the job, a timing locking kit is required which ensures everything is lined up and stops the cams from rotating when fitting the belt.
